GeoComply, one of the leading geolocation experts operating in the United States, has posted the first results of betting activity surrounding Super Bowl LVII. The company said that there were 100m geolocation checks registered across 23 US states and the District of Columbia. The company also noted that the host state, Arizona, was the first state to host the Big Game and have legal sports gambling available.
GeoComply reported that the present results were a 25% increase from last year’s Super Bowl weekend. The company also registered 7.4m accounts over the period, posting an increase of 32% year-over-year. The company further noted that there were 100,000 geolocation checks made in and in the vicinity of the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, which played host to the event.
Some 8,000 sportsbook accounts were used in the location, GeoComply confirmed. In comparison, the 2022 Super Bowl saw 80m total transactions. The company offered a further breakdown at some of the states that saw steadfast increases in their unique accounts and geolocation transactions both.
Pennsylvania recorded 11.83m geolocation transactions, up 15.1%, and 793,073 unique accounts, up 15.9%. Meanwhile, Arizona, which was the host state, saw 6,13m geolocation transactions, up 14.3% from a year before, and some 387,170 accounts, up 8.5% from a year before. Out of all states, though, New York leads the way with 13.9m geolocation checks.
The state was followed by Ohio with 12.6m and Pennsylvania with the aforementioned 11.83m. New Jersey trailed behind with 9.1m geolocation checks and there was also Michigan with 7.5m transactions, GeoComply said. In terms of total unique accounts, Super Bowl LVII was slightly different.
The main difference here was that Ohio was ahead of New York with 1.1m accounts compared to 851,000 accounts for the latter. Pennsylvania had 793,000 accounts followed by New Jersey and Michigan with 660,000 and 575,000 respectively. GeoComply Co-Founder & CEO Anna Sainsbury hailed Super Bowl LVII as a "record-breaking event."
Sainsbury and the company were encouraged by the fact that interest in legal betting and gambling on the Super Bowl has never been higher, owing no doubt to the mass legalization attempt that has taken place in the country over the past several years. Sainsbury though cautioned that Super Bowl has attracted a lot of fraudulent parties to the event, attempting to harm consumers.
Sainsbury confirmed that GeoComply has blocked more than 140,000 fraud attempts, protecting consumers from serious issues, such as ID theft, financial fraud, account takeovers, fraud rings, and more.
