Delivering its promise to bring more lottery games and increase the proceeds to good causes, Allwyn, the operator of the National Lottery in the UK, announced that two major game formats are coming this summer.
Notably, Allwyn revealed that for the first time in the history of Powerball, the game will be available outside of the USA, with a launch planned in the UK.
The UK-specific version of the world-famous game, renowned for offering the largest jackpot ever of $2.04bn in 2022, is expected to arrive for players of the National Lottery this summer.
While Allwyn confirmed the planned launch of Powerball in the UK, the operator said that the exact date when the game rolls out will be announced in due time.
Tapping into Powerball, UK players will play alongside their US counterparts for a chance to win a mega, shared jackpot.
UK lottery players who win jackpots from Powerball will receive it via annual installments paid over 30 years.
In addition to the launch of Powerball, Allwyn announced another major update.
The operator of the National Lottery said that it will overhaul the fan-favorite Lotto game.
As a result, starting from June, every £2 Lotto line will give players two chances to win, an improvement that keeps the price, number of balls to choose from and offers a new two-round format for every draw.
Ultimately, the upgrade improves the player’s odds of winning any prize from 1 in 9.3 to 1 in 4.9.
Andria Vidler, Allwyn’s CEO, acknowledged that the major game formats launch reaffirms the operator’s promise to deliver more engaging and entertaining games, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
"With extensive upgrades to our digital and retail channels now complete, we have a fantastic summer lined up, as we are now able to bring these exciting new games to our players," the executive said.
"By offering a wide range of complementary games, we’re ensuring there is something for everyone – returning the magic, building our player base and making sure The National Lottery remains part of the national conversation," Vidler added.
According to Allwyn’s CEO, the milestone game upgrade and new game launch will help the National Lottery raise more money for Good Causes.
The launch of Powerball alone is expected to deliver approximately £1bn more to good causes in the UK over the first five years, Allwyn estimates.
The major change for the Lotto game is expected to help increase the number of Lotto millionaires from approximately 140 per year to around 345 and also generate extra funds for good causes.
