Dr Fortuno is a fun, Victorian themed blackjack game. If you know your basic blackjack strategy, it has one of the best RTPs in the biz.
Somewhat unusual in the world of slot machines, Dr Fortuno is a fully decked out blackjack table with an orange suited Victorian style magician as the dealer. If his curly moustache and sinister smile don’t scare you off, you can play against him.
The Victorian setting is delightful and turns the anodyne world of online casinos into something far more interesting and atmospheric.
The graphics are excellent with the cards, chips, table, and dealer animated and rendered in 3D. The background is full of charming details like Victorian bird cages, mysterious fish tanks, and flickering candles.
The soundtrack is a lovely carnival ride track that blends a calliope machine with a theremin for a gloriously gothic effect.
Overall, this game has a beautifully polished front end.
The rules of Dr Fortuno are those of a standard six-deck blackjack game. That is to say, the show contains six decks of cards, shuffled together every hand. The player’s goal is to get closer to 21 points than the dealer without going over. If the player goes over 21, their hand loses automatically. If the player and dealer have the same number of points, the player's bet is returned in what is known as a "push".
Face cards are worth 10 points, all other cards are worth their pip value in points, except for aces which play as either 1 point or 11 points depending on which is most advantageous.
Each player receives two cards face up, the dealer receives one card face up, one face down. The players can then opt to "hit" (taking an additional card) as many times as they like, "pass" (stick with the cards they have got), or "double" (double their bet and take exactly one extra card).
If a player has two cards of the same value, they can "split", taking each card and starting a new hand with separate bets on each of them.
When the players have all gone, the dealer turns up their second card and continues to hit until their card value is over 17.
Because of the nature of this game, there are no Wilds, Bonuses or Free Spins.
The return to player of this game is 99.54%, provided you play perfect blackjack strategy. This is vastly higher than most slot games where two or three points on the vig is considered cheap. However, deviating from this strategy will rapidly add percentages to the house edge.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per hand of $/£/€0.10 up to a maximum of $/£/€100.00 per hand with players being able to play up to five hands at a time. This allows for an enormous turnover of bets for any high stakes players out there.
The volatility level of this game is low.
Though sold as a slot, Dr Fortuno is really a blackjack game with some visual bells and whistles. If blackjack is your game, this is one of the more entertaining and attractive formats to play it in.
If you want something with some more reels and free spins, then you might want to give almost any other page on our site a looking over.
