Always Hot gives you the authentic lo-fi fruit machine experience. Bare bones gameplay, three reels and one goal: get three symbols in a straight line.
Always Hot taps into the desire of some players for a simple old school game without all the complications of modern technology. The internet equivalent of one of the old mechanical one-armed bandits, Always Hot is very much in this style.
The theme, if you can call it that, is Classic Fruit Machine. The game plays on three reels with sevens, bells, and various fruit making up the symbols.
The symbols are somewhat rough to look at; there is a slight whiff of Microsoft paint about them, with their pixelated edges and 16-bit colours. The logo at the top cycles through a four frame animation in staccato jumps and only the reel animations give a sense that this is, in fact, a slot produced by one of the bigger names in the business, Novomatic.
The sounds, too, are classic Novomatic, simple electronic bleeps when the reels turn and some pleasant winning chimes.
No prize for originality or style then, but the design is, despite this, functional.
The gameplay boils down to push button, win or lose, in this game.
Although it has the usual Novomatic black and red gamble game that allows you to play double or nothing when you win, it feels very out of place in a game in which the win lines are across the three rows and two diagonals of the three by three grid it plays on.
This is a game for those who can do without the fancy luxuries of other slots.
There are no wilds, no bonuses and no free spins.
Always Hot is a low variance slot paying out, often but in small amounts. Pleasant as this is it does mean that the vig of 4.64% (i.e. a return to player of 95.36%) will show up more obviously in your results.
The bet sizes at the site we tested were a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.05 and a maximum of $/£/€50.00. This range is rather low, but will still satisfy most players.
Always Hot is a very niche product that will only be enjoyed by those looking for something fulfilling its specific role – namely a very simple, old school game with no frills. Unfortunately low variance and a low RTP count this one out of a recommendation.
There are also several other games that do a rather better job of this though.
There is also revamped version of this game, Always Hot Deluxe.
