50 Lions is a safari based slot from Aristocrat. While it isn’t anything special from a design standpoint it may appeal to those who like a simple slot machine, with a decent RTP (96%) and some varied betting options.
Time to go on safari with Aristocrat’s 50 Lions slot machine. As well as all manner of wildlife (zebra, giraffe and – of course – lions) the symbols include an African sunset complete with acacia tree in silhouette and Masai tribespeople.
The background fleshes out the sunset with an elephant and the rolling hills of the veld. It is exotic and wild.
The graphics suffer from the common Aristocrat problems in which all the symbols appear to have been given strangely luminous colour schemes – here the issue is an odd purple gradient serving as a background and in which the Ace to Nine symbols are copy pasted out of the generic Aristocrat style guide.
As a result, despite the well-animated reels and tropical setting the slot is somewhat visually messy.
There is no music and the sounds are completely generic resulting in a slot with very little atmosphere.
50 Lions takes its name from game's fifty winlines, though you can also choose to play just one line, ten lines, twenty lines, or thirty-five lines. The highest value Lion symbols are stacked on the reels in groups of one to six so as well as being the highest value symbols, when you do hit them they tend to give you a nice multi-line payout.
Beyond that, the game has a single bonus feature (see below) and a gamble feature that allows you to risk your winnings on a bet of which colour (for double your winnings) or suit (for four times your winnings) will come off a randomised deck next.
There are just two special symbols in 50 Lions.
There is a Scatter symbol with the image of a protea flower, a South African plant that symbolises change and hope. In this game it also symbolises free spins since hitting three Scatters gives you ten free spins to play with, as well as winning you four times your bet per spin.
During those free spins, you receive an extra Wild symbols on each of reels two to five.
While you can retrigger the Free Spins, you can only retrigger them once and 50 Lions will only grant you 5 more spins when you do.
The Wild symbol plays as any symbol except for the Scatter.
The RTP of 50 Lions is 96%, a pretty standard amount which doesn’t earn it any points but is certainly not too low to put us off.
50 Lions is a medium volatility game so don’t expect massive variance when you play, though you can increase it by playing fewer winlines.
Account for that in your bet sizing, which on the site we played was limited to a minimum of €/£/$0.01 per spin if you play just one winline and a maximum bet per spin of €/£/$500, making for a substantial range of betting options.
50 Lions is a decent slot machine if you are looking for something fairly middle of the road with a wide spread of betting options and winlines.
The visuals are okay, but not special, and it doesn’t have many features. Go in expecting that or you will be disappointed.
